In this article, I will be showing you how I successfully did Dell Latitude E6410 BIOS upgrade on my laptop. But before that lets get few things right.

What is BIOS?

BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a program located in the chip of your computer board and runs immediately the power button is pressed, it identifies your computer’s hardware, configures it, tests it, and connects it to the operating system for further instruction.

When should I upgrade my BIOS?

You should only upgrade your system BIOS if and only if there are highly desirable features, major bugs fixes and hardware upgrade that the new update provides. Hence, if your system works just fine, there is no need updating your system BIOS.

Disclaimer: This post about BIOS upgrade is specifically for Dell Latitude E6410 Series. Incorrectly upgrading/flashing the BIOS can leave your system in very bad shape, in some cases the only solution is to replace the system board. If you want to continue, it’s at your own risk.

How I did Dell Latitude E6410 BIOS Upgrade on my system

My system (Dell Latitude E6410) came with the A06 BIOS version and I successfully upgraded through, up to version A17 (the latest version). The system runs on Windows 10, with an intel CORE i5 Processor.

I updated my pc BIOS by installing the new versions one after another using the sequence below:

(1) A07 >> (2) A09 >> (3) A10 >> (4) A16 >> (5) A17

Important things to Note:

  • Do not turn off your computer or disconnect from the power source while updating the BIOS as this could harm your computer.
  • During the update, your computer will restart and you may briefly see a black screen, that’s normal.
  • While on the download page, it is important you check for some information about the BIOS update, like Compatible Systems and Fixes & Enhancements, before you download and start upgrading your Latitude E4610 BIOS.

Steps to perform the update

  1. Confirm the current version of BIOS your pc is running on (it is displayed while the system is booting) or you can simply run System information and search for BIOS version.
  2. Download all the versions that precedes your current version from the links above (they are all hosted on the official Dell.com website).
  3. Close all open applications on your system.
  4. Go to the location where you downloaded the files.
  5. Double tap on the executable file (.exe) you downloaded, starting from the version preceding your current BIOS (last part of the file name, before .exe contains the version of the BIOS).
  6. Follow the prompts and complete the installation.
  7. After BIOS update is done, your system will auto reboot to take effect.
  8. Repeat the steps above to upgrade your BIOS version, one after another till the last version (A17).

The steps above will perfectly work for you if you have version A06 of Dell Latitude E6410 BIOS already installed on your PC.

However, If the current version of your Dell Latitude E6410 BIOS is lower than A06, you need to run the update from the previous versions to A06, then, to version A17.
